Sunroom Design

The first thing to consider when adding a sunroom enclosure to your home is the design.  How do you want it to look?  What size do you want the sun room to be?  What features would you like for it to have? These are just a few of the questions that need to be addressed when getting ideas for your sunroom design.

The best place to start for this project is with sunroom ideas.  Look at home and garden and outdoor living magazines, watch HGTV and other home improvement type shows to get some sunroom design ideas.  Keep a notebook to write down ideas you see, plans you come up with, pictures of sunrooms you find, and design features that you like.

Once you have a good idea of what you like, it’s time to look at sunroom plans and choose a design.

Here are some common questions that need to be addressed when you select the sunroom design for your home:

Is this going to be a do it yourself (DIY) sunroom, or will you need the help of a sunroom contractor? If it is going to be a DIY sunroom, you are better off to choose a simpler design or use a sunroom kit.  Be sure to consider the sunroom cost for both options, the price in both time and money.

What size should my sun room enclosure be?  Be sure to decide on a size that will be comfortable for both you and your wallet.

What type of windows will be required for different sunroom plans?  Windows are generally the most expensive part of adding a sunroom. Plan ahead of time what size your sunroom windows will be and get pricing estimates.

What is going to be the purpose of having a sunroom?  Consider if your sunroom enclosure has a specific goal in mind – a place for entertaining, a family room, or just a room for quiet relaxation.  Select a sunroom design that will be efficient for the activities you want to take place there.
