GAZEBO

A gazebo is a freestanding, open-sided, roofed, outdoor structure that can serve many purposes. Gazebos come in various shapes and sizes and can be constructed from various materials.  The most common gazebos are the six-sided design (hexagon-shaped) or eight-sided design (octagon-shaped). Both of these gazebo types provide a round appearance. Gazebos can also be square or rectangular (four-sided).  The size of the gazebo is determined by what it will be used for.  Gazebos range in size from small, only having a sitting area for one or two people, up to ones that are large enough to serve as bandstand stages for entertainment in public areas.  Gazebos can be constructed from many materials including wood (cedar and bamboo are popular choices), metal (aluminum, steel, or iron), vinyl, and canvas.

A gazebo can be found in many settings including public parks, beaches, and church yards as well as more private settings such as personal gardens and backyards. The public places that have these beautiful outdoor structures are an excellent choice for weddings and entertainment since they generally have seating areas located around them and can accommodate small crowds.  However, gazebos are starting to become very popular for personal use and are being constructed in backyard settings for a variety of reasons. 

A gazebo can be used to add both beauty and function to an outdoor living area. When a gazebo is incorporated into landscaping, the appearance of an already beautiful landscape is enhanced, in a variety of settings including lawns, gardens, and waterfronts.  In addition to the beauty and charm that a gazebo provides, it can also be functional. Gazebos can be used as a place for relaxation. For example, you can enclose a hot tub or spa with a gazebo providing you with privacy, comfort, and outdoor relaxation. Build a gazebo in your backyard, and it can be used as an outdoor eating area for picnics and entertaining. Gazebos located near waterfronts are a great place for relaxing in the shade or for inspirational activities such as writing or painting.  Gazebos can also create a beautiful stage for a wedding ceremony. Electricity for lights can be installed so that it can be used at nighttime as well as daytime. The possibilities for how to use a gazebo are endless and depend on your own personal preferences for what you may be looking for.
