Closet Organization

Closet organization is about find what works for you.  How do you prefer to store your clothes and what do you find to be the most accessible way to get to items?  These are two questions to start with when you are trying to determine your closet organization plan.

Good closet organization is more than half of the battle when it comes to effectively storing your wardrobe. Before you install a new closet organization system that you think will magically organize your closet for you, try to work with what you already have.

To begin your closet organization, sort items into two categories: things you use or will use in the near future, and things you no longer have use for.  Immediately get rid of the things that you do not use (or at least put them to the side since they do not need to be readily accessible). Items that you readily use need to be stored in areas that easy to get to, such as the shelves at eye level or below and on the lowest hanging rods.  This style of closet organization is called active/inactive classification.  Items that you do not need or rarely use should be placed in closet areas that are the most difficult to reach (for example, on the highest shelf).

Another closet organization style is to group by function.  Group like items together, it's as simple as that.  Placing all dress shirts together, all slacks and pants together, and all sweaters together is an example of this closet organization style.

Remember, no matter what closet organization techniques you choose, the only ones that will work for you are those that you use!
